Strategy Description
The Stenger Diversified Trading Program is a discretionary technical trading strategy with a “macro aware” framework. Technical price patters drive trading decisions, but the manager prefers trades where technicals are aligned with fundamentals, news flow, and/or market sentiment. The manager utilizes a concentrated, high conviction, short-term approach, seeking to identify just 1-3 trades that they believe will be profitable over the next 2-5 day. Often times the portfolio will have hold no positions at all, as the manager prefers to sit on the sidelines until the right technical set-ups occur.
Risk Management
Risk is managed via position level stop loss limits. At initiation, positions are sized to a maximum 1% risk-to-stop level. Stops are quickly moved up to breakeven once a position is profitable. Stops are frequently adjusted to protect profits as positions continue to move in their favor, however, positions which are rapidly moving in their favor and have a significant profit built in are allowed a wider cushion.
